Laird Hamilton Shoots Malibu Pier during Hurricane Marie - Drone Footage
Insane Drone footage of the huge 11ft+ SE swell that was brought by Hurricane Marie. The surf in Malibu was Epic. Locals said that they hadn't seen surf like this in over 20 years. Laird Hamilton and 'Mr. Malibu' Alan Sarlo shoot the Malibu Pier in tandem.

THEY MIGHT WORK A JOB AS A CABANA BOY AT A BEACH RESORT , OR A ROACH COACH ON THE BEACH THAT SERVES BURGERS AND FRIES, WORKING MAYBE 4 DAYS A WEEK, IF THAT, AND WORK ABOUT 5 HOURS A DAY, IF THAT. MANY OF THEM STILL LIVE AT HOME WITH THEIR MAMA IN THE BASEMENT OR LIVE WITH ABOUT 10 OTHER SURFERS, OR DEAD BEAT POETS AS I CALL THEM. IN A HOUSE THAT SHOULD HAVE NO MORE THAN 3 PPL. Wow, thanks for sharing. I would love to shoot the pier at Malibu. That's like a once-in-a-lifetime, thing. Couldn't believe it when the sets were scraping the ceiling of the pier. I've seen that before.

Overrated.....? Malibu, when it breaks, is the BEST wave in California.
It's a great wave, but the best? Blacks, Trestles, Rincon, Sandspit, The Hook, Steamer, and Ocean Beach I'd say are all just as good and less trafficked than Malibu.

CHEESE CHEESE did you not see the footage from the beach at the very end of the video. Those sets are almost hitting the bottom of the pier and at least 1.5 overhead maybe double on that last one. Drones make surf look small.
Hey Cheese, I was there.....these were 9 to 11 foot waves all day. Second biggest day I have ever seen in Malibu. 1996 had 12 to 15 foot waves.
If there even reaching the pier it's huge there, trust me on this ,been there during two four feet ,and the pier looked very far away !

This makes me feel so fortunate. I only surfed Malibu once on a 2 to 4 foot day in the afternoon with the onshores but I did surf Noosa Heads dozens and dozens if not hundreds of times. Just as crowded though!
